On Saturday August 18, 2012, the WTU held a picnic at Six Flags Amusement Park for members and their guests. It was certainly a memorable experience. WTU provided members with a complimentary ticket and parking pass, as well as discounted park tickets for friends and family. Upon entering the park, members and our guests were greeted by WTU Representatives and welcomed warmly to the event. Members were given the opportunity to interface with President Saunders in the Cabana Area by the Wave Pool and received free bottles of water in addition to purse sized bottles of hand sanitizer.
The main event was from 2:00-4:00 in a private picnic area in a special section of the park, and if you weren’t there, you missed a real treat. The tables were laden with all sorts of goodies, such as candy, buttons, rulers and pens. All children who were in attendance received gift bags and were given the opportunity to have their picture drawn by a sketch artist and receive a balloon animal from a balloon artist. The fun didn’t stop there! Each WTU member received a ream of copy paper to start the year off, a t-shirt and a raffle ticket to win one of the following prizes: a $100.00 gas card, a $100. AMEX gift card , tickets on the 50 yard line to a Redskins game, flowers, or a Subway gift card! Everyone walked away with some sort of gift. It was an exciting time.
DC Mayor Vincent Gray and DC Councilmember Vincent Orange gave words of encouragement to the members after the welcome address by President Saunders and then the feast began! We were treated to a sumptuous buffet that included all you can eat: hot dogs, minced bar-b-que, potato salad, fried chicken and ice cream treats! The mood was festive as members and their guests enjoyed food, fellowship and fun, in preparation for a great new school year.
