There are concerns about the D.C. Public Schools FY 2013 School Budget that will reduce special education services, increase class sizes and seriously undermine the academic achievements of D.C. public school students.
Listen to Washington Teachers’ Union President Nathan A. Saunders discuss changes to special education in D.C. Public Schools on The Mary & Melissa Talk Show.
What can you do to make a difference? Take action for special education and write your local legislators—using both your home and school zip code—to urge legislators to revisit these critical issues and exercise their authority to challenge decreases in services for special education students in D.C. Public Schools.

Thank you for posting this information. I knew about the hearing, watched it on the internet and was greatful for the testimony of colleagues, parents, students and community members.
It is very clear that DCPS will do anything to keep pay for performance at any and all cost even though they cannot afford to do so. Pushing this burden down on the backs of our students is criminal. Schools are slashing librarians, art, music, and now even special education teachers, coordinators and other necessary personnel.
This is a disgrace…..
I am sick of DCPS and this government trying to balance a budget on the backs of our children and their teachers. I listened to the hearing and to learn that librarians are being cut from schools…it’s incredulous!
Who is the idiot making these decisions?
Student achievement …..I think not !
